    The California Maritime Academy (CMA) is one of the twenty-three campuses of the California State University (CSU) system. Founded in 1929, it is the only maritime college in the Western United States. Today, the California Maritime Academy is a marine-oriented college of business and technology offering degrees in Business Administration, Facilities Engineering Technology, Global Studies, Marine Engineering Technology, Marine Transportation, and Mechanical Engineering. Cal Maritime’s degree programs combine intellectual learning, applied technology and professional development to prepare graduates for positions of significant responsibility and technical difficulty. Students spend several hours each week in labs, simulators and on the training ship, Golden Bear, and all CMA students participate in the Corps of Cadets, a structure for student conduct and professional development.


    Touro University-California is a rapidly expanding graduate education institution focusing on health careers and teacher preparation programs. The mission of Touro is to provide quality educational programs in the fields of healthcare and education in concert with the Judaic commitment to social justice, intellectual pursuit and service tohumanity. There are four colleges at Touro University – California: The College of Osteopathic Medicine prepares students to become outstanding osteopathic physicians committed to primary care and the holistic approach to the patient. The College of Health Sciences offersa Physician’s Assistant/Master of Public Health program dedicated to the development of mid-level practitioners. The College of Education offers teacher credential programs as well as administrative and special education credentials. The College of Pharmacy offers a program that prepares students for a clinically oriented, contemporary pharmacy practice.


    Solano Community College (SCC) has a new, 40,000 square feet, state-of-the art Vallejo Center that accommodates 3000 students. This conveniently located facility, situated on a 10-acre site in the Northgate area, includes classrooms, science and computer labs, an auditorium and a multi-use facility serving the physical education, dance and theatre programs. SCC offers community-based programs that include transfer education to 4-year colleges, career training, a wide variety of short-term programs (6-12 months) to help you get a new or better job, and courses for personal enrichment. Program and course offerings from all divisions are Business and Computer Science, Career Technology, Counseling, Fine & Applied Arts/Behavioral Sciences, Health Sciences, Humanities, Math/Science, and Physical Education/Athletics. Classes are only $20/unit.

    Primary and Secondary Education

    Public Schools:
    The
    Vallejo City Unified School District is a medium-sized K-12 school district serving 17,000 students. The District is comprised of 16 K-5 schools, 4 Middle Schools serving grades 6-8, 2 comprehensive high schools, a continuation school, a community day school, and a unique school which provides support to families who choose an independent study/home study option. In addition, the District has an extensive child development and preschool program and an adult school which serves 4,000 adults.

    Charter School:
    Mare Island Technology Academy (MIT Academy) is Vallejo’s first charter school. The mission of MIT Academy is to challenge and empower the diverse community of young people in Vallejo, sixth grade through twelfth grade, to master a rigorous, interconnected curriculum that equips students with exceptional academic, technological, social and life skills and enables them to become self-motivated, competent lifelong learners.

    The Vallejo Charter School (VCS) is a community-based education project initiated by parents, community members and the Vallejo Unified School District. The goal of this K-8 charter school is to provide an additional choice and educational opportunity for Vallejo families. The educational program is designed so that children of various learning styles and abilities will thrive in a child centered, experiential, and active learning environment, that embraces the whole child.

    Private Schools:
    Vallejo has an excellent network of private and parochial schools. Primary schools include
    St. Basil’s Elementary, St. Catherine’s Elementary, North Hills, and St.Vincent Ferrer Elementary. St. Patrick/St. Vincent High School is a highly regarded private Catholic high school with a reputation for outstanding teachers and instruction. Recently opened, Starting Gate School has an outstanding curriculum and staff dedicated to their students.
