    The Vallejo Fire Department Secures
Two Grants For Equipment and Supplies
VALLEJO, CA – The Fire Department has received two grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The first is a supplemental Assistance to Firefighters (AFG-S) grant in the amount of $30,354 to help allay the cost of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) related to COVID-19. With this grant, Fire Department personnel will be able to receive reimbursement for protective masks, eye protection, gloves, and gown purchases made since January 1, 2020, and offset the cost of PPE purchases necessary through May 2021. Per the grant, the Fire Department is required to pay $2,760 of the $30,354 as part of the 10% non-federal match.
The second grant is an Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) grant for specialized self-contained breathing apparatus’ (SCBA) in the amount of $572,727. This grant will allow the Department to replace all firefighter’s SCBA units, including masks, regulator, and air cylinder. Current Fire Department SCBA units are almost nine years old, with a maximum lifecycle of 10 years. The new units will meet current National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standards and will give firefighters more time on their oxygen tanks before they are depleted during emergencies. The Department is required to provide a $57,000 non-federal match in addition to the $572,727.
Both of these grants will be presented to City Council in October, where they will be asked to recognize the new funds and allow the Fire Department to make purchases in accordance with the regulations of the grant.
