Solano Community Foundation is Joining the Global #GivingTuesday Movement
SCF to Lead #GiveLocalSolano County Campaign with 30+ Nonprofit Partners

Fairfield, Calif.: – This #GivingTuesday, December 3, 2019, Solano Community Foundation will celebrate charitable giving by leading the 24-hour online giving campaign in Solano County called #GiveLocalSolano.  The goal is to raise money for local nonprofits that work with local residents in Solano County.  The preliminary details of the upcoming campaign were communicated to SCF’s Nonprofit Partnership Program members at a workshop on Wednesday, 11 September.  More information will be sent to our NPP mailing list.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage giving and to celebrate generosity worldwide.  Every year, on #GivingTuesday, millions of people across the globe mobilize to show up, give back, and change their communities.  The purpose is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day and touches every person on the planet.  Founded in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in.  In just seven years, #GivingTuesday has radically changed how we think about generosity and showed just how much power communities everywhere have to create change.

For this year, SCF is joining forces with 30 - 35 of its nonprofit partners to bring the needs of the nonprofit sector in Solano County to the attention of the charitable community at large.  This joint fundraising effort will achieve wider awareness for the overall campaign, raise the visibility and profile of local nonprofits, and promote a culture of philanthropy in Solano County.

Connie Harris, CEO of Solano Community Foundation, said this about the campaign, “We’ve led this giving effort in the past with notable challenges.  We hope to increase the level of giving this year.  Our goal is to raise $100,000 overall for our participating nonprofit partners.  That goal is achievable when you consider there are about 350,000 adults in Solano County.  If just half of the total adult population (175,000) gave $10 each, it would result in $1,750,000 raised for Solano County nonprofits.  Our goal of $100,000 is very reasonable.  The levels of creativity, effort, and the quality of the new ideas our Nonprofit Partners shared to publicize the Day of Giving are phenomenal.”

When #GivingTuesday was launched in the US in 2012, its organizers felt that technology and social media could be used to make generosity go viral.   They believed in the idea that people fundamentally want to give and to talk about giving; and that the social sector had the capacity to show more innovative leadership, creativity, and collaboration.  People and organizations around the world proved them right.  In the years 2012 to 2018, approximately $1,036.4 billion was raised worldwide on this one day of giving.
