City of Vallejo Announces Community-focused Police Chief Recruitment
VALLEJO, CA - The City of Vallejo has kicked off the recruitment process to find a new Police Chief. The City has engaged Ralph Andersen & Associates, one of California's premiere recruiting firms, to lead a nationwide search for a talented professional to lead the Vallejo Police Department.
"We are at a critical and important point in the history of our Police Department and the City will be investing significant time and resources in our search for new leadership. The City Council has requested the City Manager conduct a comprehensive, nationwide search to find a talented professional to transform the future of our Police Department," said Mayor Bob Sampayan. "A core element of this selection process is broad community engagement that ensures the leader connects with and is sensitive to the needs of our community, our police and the Council."
The City has outlined an aggressive community engagement process throughout the recruitment period that will seek both public feedback on the kind of talent the City hires, and a community interview panel who will participate in the candidate interview process. The timeline for selection of a new Police Chief could take six months to complete with the following target milestones:
"The City will execute a robust recruitment based on best practices to find a game-changing leader," said Greg Nyhoff, City Manager. "Community input will be a cornerstone of this process and help us identify the skills and characteristics of a leader who will make a positive impact."
The recruiter leading the effort is Chief Greg Nelson (ret.), a Vice President at Ralph Andersen & Associates. Chief Nelson joined Ralph Andersen & Associates following a career of over 20 years in the public sector. Prior to joining Ralph Andersen & Associates, Mr. Nelson served as a Chief of Police for Pekin, Illinois where he was known for his progressive and principled leadership. Chief Nelson holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Illinois-Springfield and is a graduate of both the FBI National Academy and Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command.
